BEACH HAVEN, NJ - The saga of the bankruptcies, the theatre shutdown, the failed Auction and other issues is over. On Friday, April 28, 2017, the Closing was signed, sealed, more money was turned over and Surflight Theatre was delivered to new owner, Broadway Producer Al Parinello.
Mr. Parinello’s offer for purchase was accepted in early February 2017.
Cleaning, environmental evaluations and other building work had already begun weeks ago in preparation for the upcoming 2017 summer Surflight Season and Show Place Ice Cream Parlour.
Steve Steiner, a former Artistic Director until 2010 and a long time Artistic partner of Mr. Parinello, has returned as Producing Artistic Director; theatre management has been in place since February. Casting for both the theatre season and the famous Show Place singing Waitri is nearly complete after auditions held in New York City, on campus at Jersey City University and locally. Tickets have been on sale since mid-March and are selling briskly.
The Season includes: Footloose, (June 23- July 9), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (July 11-23), Disney’s Newsies (July 25-Aug.13, Hairspray (Aug.15-27), Million Dollar Quartet Aug. 29-Sept. 10) and Home for the Holidays: A Surflight Celebration (Dec. 7-17).
Concerts are still being booked but will include John Davidson July 31, the Coasters, Drifters and Platters (Aug.7), and the New Millenium Jazz Band Plays The Sinatra Songbook (Nov. 25).
The Education Division will present Rock of Ages (High School Version) with local students Oct. 20, 21, 22.
