STAFFORDVILLE, N.J.- Two people are dead and another is seriously injured after a crash in Eagleswood Township around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The accident took place on Route 9 in the Staffordville section of Eagleswood. Police report that the the driver lost control, hit utility poles, and then crashed into the side of Calloways's restaurant.
A spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutors Office said that the driver of a GMC Acadia, a 54 year old Manahawkin woman, struck the southeast corner of Calloway's Restaurant in Eagleswood. The driver was heading north on Route 9 when she suddenly lost consciousness and slumped over the steering wheel with her foot still on the accelerator, said spokesman Al Della Fave. The Acadia veered veered into the southbound lane and struck the southeast corner of the Calloway's restaurant. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The front passenger, a 91 year old man from Little Egg Harbor also died from injuries suffered in the accident.
The rear passenger side occupant was partially ejected through the windshield from the backseat. She was taken to the hospital with shoulder and head injuries but was said to be in stable condition. This injured victim is a 44 year old woman from Tuckerton.
The rear driver's side passenger, a 15-year-old male, was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center for possible broken ribs and internal injuries.
The names of the deceased and injured have not been released at the time of this report.
