Each year there are many events throughout Stafford Township and Long Beach Island where you can give back and support this cause.
This year will be the fifth year for the Stafford Run for HOPE 5k, Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquabike races, but the first year that David's Dream will be involved in the entire event in collaboration with Ross Reynolds from Trident Multisport.
The David’s Dream & Believe student group from Southern Regional High School will be managing various aspects of the event, as well as many of the students participating in the race.
Dr. Ai Zhang from Stockton University and her Advanced Public Relations class as well as her Social Media Class will also be raising awareness and participating in the event.
David said, "I think this event is on the verge of something special for our community and more importantly the families battling a cancer diagnosis that benefit from an event like this one."
All proceeds will benefit David's Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation, 11th Hour Racing, and the Southern Regional School District. The proceeds from the 5K will benefit DDBCF exclusively.
11th Hour Racing is an organization with a similar mission to David's Dream & Believe. This organization was created by Mike Rowe, an ED/Trauma Tech in the ER at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where Co-Founder of DDBCF David Caldarella was treated for Stage IV Head and Neck cancer. Rowe will also be participating with a surgeon and resident from the hospital in the triathlon relay of the event.
All races will take place on Saturday, June 18th, 2016. The Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquabike will start at 7:00 a.m. sharp. The Run for Hope 5k will start at 7:30 a.m. All events begin and finish at the Manahawkin Lake Park III.
With the Manahawkin Lake in Stafford Township being located just minutes from beautiful Long Beach Island, this is a perfect chance for people near and far to come down, race, and enjoy a nice weekend on the white sandy beaches of LBI before summer gets into full swing.
The Stafford Race course is flat and fast. The swim is in a deep fresh water lake. The bike course will be fast and mostly flat. The run takes you along the lake road through the quiet neighborhood of Deer Lake Park. The run is an out and back course so you can keep an eye on and track down your competition. The 5K run that will consist of the same 3.1 run course that the multisport athletes are using. The 5K race is for all ages and abilities.
