BERKELEY - The new Ocean County Shillelagh Club, centered in Stafford Township held a great event on Wednesday in Berkeley Township at Veterans Park.
The participants were the Devrin Academy of Irish Dance, the Ocean County Emerald Society PIpes and Drums and by Celtic Aire. Celtic Aire is comprised of five Airmen musicians from the U.S. Air Force Band's Singing Sergeants.
In addition to concerts in Washington D.C., and the surrounding area, this ensemble performs at events for high-level military and civilian leaders.
There were approximately 1,500 people in attendance at the concert. The Ocean County Shillelagh Club is a new organization for men of Irish descent in the county. The Shillelagh formed in Old Bridge in the 1950's. The group expanded to another club, the Essex County Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh located in West Orange and the Jersey Shore Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Belmar.
The Order of The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Ocean County is a fraternal organization of men of Irish descent, created to promote Irish Heritage. The leadership is planning to have their own permanent home in the future.
The group is sponsoring the Ocean County Irish Festival on Saturday, September 9 at the Manahawkin Lake Park on Route 9 in Stafford Township. It will be a full day of great music, food and fun. The cost for that event is free!.
