The history of the property includes the building being known as the Acme Hotel in the early 1900's. The new owners are people who appreciate the history of LBI, as recognized in the opening of the Parker's Garage Oyster House a few years back right across the street from the Ketch.

The next ownership change was in the lates 1970's to the Donofrio family. They were the former owners of the Quarterdeck and many other bars, restaurants and liquor stores throughout Ocean County. Michael Battista became the next owner in 1984 until this month's sale to the Tide Table Group.  Battista continues to own The Marlin in Beach Haven.

The new name Bird and Betty's is named after Betty and Bird Clutter according to the press release sent out by the Tide Table Group. The Clutters operated the bar beginning in 1956.  The Tide Table Group is planning to preserve the historical flavor of Beach Haven as they have in their other Beach Haven establishments, the Black Whale and Parker's Garage.

“We are all very excited about this new project, which will emphasize fun,” said co-owner Melanie Magaziner, “We want to create something everyone will love focusing on the new deck and outdoor space, which will be built next winter. But we want to start setting the tone this summer by bringing great bands to the stage,”

Bird and Betty's will open on May 11.

The menu will include many favorites from across the Tide Table Group’s menus as well as artisan pizza. The kitchen will be run by Parker’s Garage acclaimed chef, Kyle Baddorf. The bar operation will be overseen by Kurt Gilfillan and Filemon Alaba, the veteran bar managers of the Black Whale and Old Causeway. There are plans to continue the tradition of live music.

For those interested, the new owners plan to continue Teen Nights with a lot of major, fun filled improvements.
