STAFFORD - At a recent town council meeting Stafford Township Administrator James Moran provided updates about some work that will be taking place on Route 72 this summer.

This summer the dangerous Barnacle Road and Route 72 area is on it's way to improvement.  The “right in, right out” turning pattern will be constructed this summer.  There have been many terrible accidents over the years when people make a left turn at Barnacle onto Route 72 eastbound.  It is also a bit dangerous making a left turn into the Health Village across the highway in that area.  Mr. Moran mentioned that the goal is to make Mermaid Drive a four-way intersection providing out of the back of Health Village.

The administrator also announced that the Department of Transportation will begin a paving project from Marsha Drive to the traffic light at Shop Rite on Route 72.

The next section (just west of Shop Rite) will not be paved because it is part of the East Road project to improve the travel near Walmart.  Recently, two large utility poles and a water main have been moved to accommodate the intersection reconfiguration.  The right-of-way acquisitions will be completed by the fall and construction expected to begin by late spring 2018.

The last section of paving will take place from the Garden State Parkway to the entrance of the Fawn Lakes community.
