STAFFORD - On Thursday May 30, the Southern Regional High School held their annual Scholarship Awards program. Many businesses, individuals and families expressed their generosity by presenting scholarships to students in Southern's Class of 2019.
On Thursday evening, over $620,000 dollars was given to assist graduating seniors to pay for their college education or vocational future. The Southern community did all the hard work and distributed 302 students 1,149 scholarships from 343 donor organizations or individuals. All the money comes from local donors; service clubs, local businesses, PBA’s and families. .
Southern's scholarship program began with the Class of 1985 receiving over $58,000.00 in local scholarships. The giving has increased over ten fold since that initial awards night in 1985.
The awards throughout the years have enabled Southern Regional students to attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country while also providing help to students whose desire it is to attend local colleges, technical and trade schools. This program touches all students of the district and is invaluable in their pursuit of higher education.
It is the community support that makes Southern's scholarship program so successful. Many people and organizations work tirelessly to raise funds for the students. Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients.
