STAFFORD — The Southern Regional School District's website posted a letter last week addressing the cooperative plan of Southern and their sending districts to reopen school in September. The leaders of each district have had meetings throughout the summer attempting to address issues related to school opening in September.  The letter follows below.

Dear Parents and Community,

On June 26 the New Jersey Department of Education published The Road Back, Restart and Recovery Plan for Education which is the guidance document for reopening New Jersey schools in September. An important element of planning a reopening is to have a coordinated effort by the schools that serve this very special community.

The superintendents of Beach Haven School District, Long Beach Island Consolidated School District, Ocean Township/Waretown School District, Southern Regional School District and Stafford Township School District have been regularly meeting and will continue to meet throughout the planning and reopening process.

During the most recent meeting of the aforementioned superintendents (Wednesday, July 15, 2020) there was a consensus agreement to plan for a maximal attendance, in-person reopening. Within this agreement is recognition that the challenges are abundant and that the health, safety and well-being of all who participate in the reopening is paramount. Consideration and reasonable accommodations for immune compromised participants will be an integral component throughout the planning process.

Simultaneous to developing a maximal attendance reopening plan there will also be hybrid plans developed to provide a variety of contingencies for partial attendance/partial remote learning models, in the event that a hybrid plan is mandated by health officials or the Department of Education.

School and district level meetings have been ongoing and will continue. Parent information and feedback meetings are immediately forthcoming.

In the weeks remaining until September, we pledge our best effort in developing a reopening plan that is inclusive, flexible and underpinned by an unconditional commitment to the health and safety of all school participants and the community-at-large.
