STAFFORD - Stafford Strong, Stafford Township's resident run community group, is holding a mega donation drive to support our Barnegat Light Coast Guard families during the government shutdown.

Specific needs are listed on the Stafford Strong Facebook page, including specific formula brand needs such as Similac Sensitive and diaper sizes including size 4 through size 6.

The page is updated very frequently as new needs are called in to the facebok page owner, Ashley Stabile.

All donations must meet the rigid Coast Guard Code of Conduct or they can not be accepted.

For example gift cards must be in a denomnination of no more than $20 and must be to specific stores such as Wawa or Walmart.

The Stabile Family has opened their home at 19 Whippoorwill Lane in West Creek 08092 for all donation drop offs and deliveries.

To date Mrs. Stabile reports a growing tower of diapers, pull ups and wipes, a growing basket full of gift cards that have been dropped off, and several donations sent to her via Venmo from those who are not local.

In addition, several people from outside of our area have sent donations to the home via Amazon.

"The outpouring of support in our community is why we keep Stafford Strong alive,” Stabile said, “it has a purpose beyond anything Brian and I could've imagined when we began it in the days after Superstorm Sandy. We're very thankful for those around us who are always ready to lift eachother up in times of need."

43 Coast Guard Employees working at Barnegat Light are going without pay at this time.

Upon receiving contact information on Thursday morning for BPC Robert Shay from a fellow nurse who is a Coast Guard wife, Mrs. Stabile reached out to see how the community could help.

Several conversations later, a mega donation drive was in full swing and a dinner for the USCG and their families was in the works.

As of right now the dinner is tentatively set for Sunday, February 3rd, 2019.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering time, food or their excellent cooking skills is asked to reach out to Ashley Stabile via the Stafford Strong inbox page or

The goal is to provide a delicious, ethically compliant, meal for all members and their families in addition to several days worth of meals for the weeks to follow.

The duration of the government shutdown is unknown and these needs will only continue to grow until it ends.

For this reason, Stafford Strong will continue this mega donation drive for the duration of the government shutdown and continue weekly deliveries by different delivery volunteers to remain ethically compliant, indefinitely.

Refer to the Stafford Strong Facebook Page or contact Mrs. Stabile for a specific and current list of Coast Guard needs.
