STAFFORD — The Stafford Teachers and Residents Together team (START), which organized and began serving after Hurricane Sandy has begun a new ADOPT-A-SENIOR program in response to the Covid-19 quarantine.

The group is working to meet the growing demand for assisting older residents with errands.  Joe Mangino, one of the leaders has a desire to pair a volunteer with a senior citizen or senior couple for the duration of the crisis.

By pairing and connecting with one individual, this gives the volunteer the opportunity to possibly combine their own shopping needs with the needs of their senior and thereby hopefully eliminating extra trips out to the stores.

This new one-to-one approach gives the seniors a level of comfort knowing the same person will be coming to their door and interacting with them.

There is a great need for volunteers to join the ADOPT-A-SENIOR program. This is a great time to help make a difference in the community.

"Right now I’m coordinating everything and thankfully my list of volunteers is growing because the demand is growing everyday," said Mangino. "I’ve been getting the names of those in need of assistance from the Stafford Recreation Department and friends in the community."
