STAFFORD – The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office release information about a Marlton man who was arrested after an underage girl accused him of having sex with her. 

The victim, a minor from Stafford told her parents about the assault.  The victim and Torrence had corresponded over social media for about a week before he traveled to her home in Stafford Township and brought her back to his Marlton residence for sex.

Charles E. Torrence, 49, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. He was charged with luring in Ocean County.

Torrence was taken into custody Saturday following a motor vehicle stop by the Stafford Township Police Department in the victim’s housing development. Torrence was charged with luring in Ocean County.

Additional details are being withheld in an effort to protect the identity of the victim.

He is being held in Burlington County Jail.

The case was investigated by the Evesham Township Police (NJ) Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, with assistance from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Stafford Township Police Department. The lead investigators are Evesham Township Detective David Niji and BCPO Detectives Mel Rogers and Brian Cunningham.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
