It takes just three ingredients and a few minutes to whip together this rich, creamy milk chocolate treat, perfect for a winter day.

Tip: A serrated knife will make quick work of chopping up a milk chocolate bar. We recommend using high-quality chocolate for a smooth, creamy drink. Milk chocolate chips won’t melt as easily as wafers or bars, but they’ll do in a pinch.

8 oz. milk chocolate, chopped

3 cups whole milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

In a small pot, combine all ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring, until smooth and steaming. Ladle into cups.

Customize it!

Besides topping your cup with marshmallows or whipped cream, there are a variety of ways to make your hot chocolate your own. A few suggestions:

Add a peppermint stick for stirring.

Mix in a shot of espresso for a luxurious mocha.

Grown-ups can also add a splash of liqueur, such as RumChata or Framboise

Sprinkle in a little chai spice mix for chocolate chai
