Colton Davis, Brody Nacarlo, Landon Nacarlo and Avery Nacarlo of the Ocean Acres section of Manahawkin were playing outside of their homes, when they heard a neighbor’s smoke alarm going off.

The kids ran up to the house where they saw smoke inside the windows and saw a distressed dog barking by the front door. They quickly called 911, and ran back to their house to alert their mother of the incident.

The Stafford Township Police Department and Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene, at which time forced entry was made into the house and an active fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire was determined to be the rascally dog, who had turned on the stovetop in an attempt to retrieve cupcakes left on the top of the stove, causing the cupcakes to catch fire.

As a direct result of the heroes quick response in calling 911, the dog was uninjured and the fire was put out before causing any structural damage to the home.

The Stafford Township Police recognized and honored the bravery of these outstanding kids. The police and Fusaros Pizza hosted a celebratory event for Colton, Brody, Landon and Avery.
