STAFFORD - A man from Shamong, New Jersey was arrested and tested for DWI after a Saturday evening motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Stafford Avenue and Parker Street.
The accident took place at approximately 5:45 p.m. and the Stafford Township Police Investigation indicated Riley Harris, 24 of Shamong, New Jersey, was operating a Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling west on Stafford Avenue. He was approaching the stop sign and blinking red light at the intersection of Parker Street.
Susan Laprete, 58 of Stafford Township, New Jersey was operating a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling north on Parker Street. She was travelling through the intersection of Stafford Avenue. Laprete's vehicle was struck on the front passenger's side by Harris’s pickup truck as he failed for stop sign and blinking red light.
The impact forced Laprete’s vehicle into a parked car in the front yard of the residence on Parker Street. Her vehicle came to a resting position on top of the parked vehicle. Harris’s vehicle came to rest after striking a tree on the property of the same residence.
Laprete suffered numerous injuries. She was removed from her vehicle and later flown out to Atlantic City Trauma Center. She was treated and later released. Harris was treated on scene for minor injuries and refused medical attention.
Harris was placed under arrest for DWI, and transported to the Southern Ocean Medical Center for a blood draw. At the time of the police press release, toxicology results were pending. Harris was issued several traffic summonses, including Careless Driving, Failure to Stop and Use of a Cell Phone.
This investigation is being handled by Patrolman Wiatrowski and Sgt. Costello. The Stafford Township Fire Company and EMS, and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office assisted at the scene.
