STAFFORD - On Friday night, the Southern Rams defeated MIddletown North 21-14 at home. At the moment of victory, the win clinched at least a share of the Constitution Division championship for the Rams. However, a few minutes after Southern's victory, they learned that Marlboro defeated Freehold Township 14-12 and that resulted in the Rams being sole Constitution Division Champions.
Southern has the best record it has had since 2012 with their current 5-1 mark.
Jaiden Brown carried the ball 32 times for 161 yards. It is just the third division title Southern has won or shared in the program's history. The last was the Class A South title in 2011.
Southern's Cole Robinson had a great game passing. The senior completed 11 of 17 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Will Devane caught four passes for 40 yards.
Nick Ferreira threw for two touchdowns for the Lions, while Quentin Soler and Travis Thompson each made a touchdown catch for Middletown North (3-3).
Southern has won four in a row and outscored opponents, 118-67, over that span.
Southern's other Shore Conference titles came in 1972 when it shared the C Division title with Asbury Park and Wall Township and in 2011 when it won the A South championship.
