LONG BEACH ISLAND AREA - This mid-week report is not an actual fishing report but rather an update on a couple of happenings on the local scene this weekend.
The first one involves the Village Harbour Fishing Club which meets at the Stafford Township Community Center on East Bay Avenue. The meeting is this Friday, June 12, and features the awarding of the “Captain Melanie Boytos Award” to the top angler from the club for the year 2018.
To win this award, an angler is judged on catches from several species of fish. The award is given in memory of Captain Melanie who was a local fishing guide with special ties to the VHFC. Mel suffered an untimely death several years back, and the prestigious award is given to keep her memory alive.
In addition, I will be giving a presentation on catching blue claw crabs and sharing some of my knowledge about crabs and their habits. I intend to share a couple of my recipes and even treat the members to some of my hot crab dip. Guests are always welcome to stop by and meet the club members and see what a meeting is all about. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7:45.
The other event I want to publicize is the Twenty Second Annual Fluke/Bluefish Tournament put on by the Sunshine Foundation out of the American Legion Post in Little Egg Harbor.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 13. The captain’s meeting is Friday July 12, at 6pm. with fishing the next day.
Weigh-ins and gala party caps off the day of fishing from 3-7 p.m. All festivities are at the Legion Post at 420 Radio Road. For additional information call Tom at 732-267-6451 or email@example.com. This is a family friendly event with special activities for all the kids in attendance.
All proceeds are used to help make dreams come true for local deserving children.
