STAFFORD and LONG BEACH ISLAND — A wicked storm blasted through the Southern Ocean County region Wednesday around 1 p.m. The storm left behind a large amount of damage to area homes and businesses.

People have questioned whether the damage was caused by a tornado or just straight line winds. No official word from the National Weather Service this evening.

By 4 p.m. over 30,000 people lost electric power in Ocean County, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

The St. Francis Center in Brant Beach had part of its roof torn off from the powerful storm.
