BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — Summit-based non-profit Home for Good Dog Rescue will host its first annual 5K and Doggy Dash at Nomahegan Park in Cranford on Oct. 3.

This exciting event will help raise funds for construction of the ALMOST HOME Wellness Center, a specialized facility in Aiken, S.C. that will provide a place for rescue dogs to recuperate and receive medical care before they travel to New Jersey for adoption.

“This is an exciting first-time event, and we’re so grateful for all the support our community has given us,” Shari Gold, Home for Good’s Manager of Development, said. “It will be a wonderful way to have fun while supporting our rescue mission!”

Home for Good Dog Rescue is committed to rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters throughout South Carolina and Georgia. Once rescued, dogs stay with southern foster families until they are transported north, either by plane or by van.

The planned ALMOST HOME Wellness Center will allow Home for Good to ensure even more animals can make safe and healthy journeys to New Jersey in search of permanent homes.

“We have activities for both serious runners and people who simply love spending time outdoors with their pet,” Gold said. “Everyone is welcome, and every participant is making a real difference in the life of a homeless dog.”

The day will consist of three major events: a timed 5K run on a USA Track & Field-certified course, a timed run for participants and their dogs, and a one mile dog walk.

Exciting prizes for the fastest times and best canine and human teams have been provided by sponsors Ferraro’s of Westfield, Flywheel, Faux Paws Wholesome Pet Shop, Westfield Running Company, Details Salon & Spa, Hilltop Bicycles, Cherrybrook Pet Supplies, and more.

Pre-registrants are guaranteed a custom t-shirt and special goody bag featuring sponsored items from Clif Bar and Road I.D.

Participants may register on the day of the event or online at www.Register.CompuScore.com/HomeforGood5k. Pre-registration begins 8:00 A.M. The event is rain or shine.
