SHORT HILLS, NJ - The parking lot is empty and the store is locked.

A notice affixed to the front door window reads, “Please be advised that Benjamin A. Stanziale Jr., Esq. has been appointed Trustee of Bill’s of Millburn, Inc. d/b/a Bill’s Army & Navy Store." It further states, “These premises and Contents therein are subject to the Jurisdiction of the United States Federal Bankruptcy Court." A call to the store's management went unanswered.

"Bill’s Army Navy Outdoors" opened in 1971 and operated for the past four and a-half decades, serving as a 'go-to' destination for all things outdoors including tents, kayaks and outerwear. Youth going off to camp often shopped there for their gear. Girl and Boy and Scout badges, uniforms and a kaleidoscope of related and other and items.

A recent trip for kayaking supplies found the store well stocked and the clerks very helpful and knowledgeable. As Christina Amundson of Summit lamented, “The community has lost an asset and a homegrown business where you could buy anything you could possibly need for an outdoor adventure. It will be missed.”
