SUMMIT, NJ -  The City of Summit Common Council has designated April 25 as Arbor Day in Summit.

Each year the Department of Community Services, and the Shade Tree Advisory Committee, coordinate the celebration of Arbor Day by the planting of trees at various locations throughout the municipality.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the northwest quadrant of the Village Green (intersection of Maple Street and Railroad Avenue), a Ruby Red Horsechestnut tree will be planted as part of the recent Village Green beautification project.

The festivities will continue with the planting of a Little Leaf Linden tree at the Wilson Primary Center at 10:15 a.m., where Mayor Ellen Dickson will present an Arbor Day proclamation to Principal Felix Gil.
Primary Center students have been invited to participate in the festivities, and each will receive a tree seedling to take home and plant.  City Forester Jon Linson will also speak briefly on the history of Arbor Day.

Members of the community are invited to participate in the Arbor Day celebrations.
