Area Presentation 'Opioid Crisis to Opportunity' Set for May 30

CHATHAM, NJ – The Municipal Alliance Committee of the Chathams (MACC), in coordination with the MCC Coalition, will host an Opioid/Heroin Awareness: From Crisis to Opportunity seminar 7 p.m. Tuesday May 30 at the Chatham High School auditorium.

The presentation is designed to help the families of Chatham and surrounding communities address the opioid and heroin epidemic.

The presentation will feature an educational segment, led by Pat Aussem, a licensed professional counselor and parenting expert, to empower parents with information including current trends, signs and symptoms, resources and a call to action.

Additionally, there will be a panel of speakers including: Melissa Crouse of Origins Behavioral Healthcare, a local young adult in recovery, and a mother who lost her son to an opioid overdose.

The presenters will share their personal understanding and experiences highlighting solution based education and resources and opportunities to solve the problem. Also in the presentation, the lifesaving first aid drug Naloxone/Narcan -which reverses an overdose – will be discussed and local training opportunities offered.

All residents are encouraged to attend this important event which will focus on shedding light on the opioid addiction issue and steps to change this crisis and save loved ones. It is important for residents to know that all families can be at risk either now or in the future.
