SUMMIT, NJ - In a letter co-signed by Summit Superintendent of Schools June Chang and Director of Human Resources Matthew Block, the school district has informed parents that Dr. Paul Arilotta, former Interim Director of Human Resources, will become the Interim Principal at Lawton C. Johnson Middle School (LCJSMS).

Arilotta's interim appointment, which takes effect from the beginning of the school year until a permanent principal is hired, reflect's the fact that, "even after significant amounts of  time, effort, and focus on this undertaking, a candidate has not yet emerged as the next leader of LCJSMS."
Since May, a committee -- comprised of a Board of Education member, parents, teachers, and administrators -- has searched for a permanent replacement for Block, who had occupied the post since 2008. The letter states that "the committee was guided by the belief that our students, families, and community deserve the highest caliber leader."
Arilotta has had a lengthy career in education, serving as a teacher, principal, special education supervisor, human resources director, college professor, and superintendent. During the interim period, he will work with LCJSMS Assistant Principals Carly Johnson and Nicholas Grimshaw, and Block will be available to provide assistance,
While no timeline is stated, the letter does state that it is hoped a "dynamic and accomplished leader for LCJSMS" will be hired "in the coming months," and that parents will be "kept informed as there are developments in the hiring process."
