Art Center Provides Professional Development Workshops for Artists Beginning May 20

Sarah Walko, the Art Center's Director of Education and Community Engagement, will lead the workshops.

SUMMIT, NJ - Beginning May 20, the Visual Arts Center will host 'Get Out There! - Getting Your Work fro the Studio into the World', a series of professional development opportunities for artists.

Held throughout May and June, the workshops will cover topics such as presentation, websites, artist statements, applications for exhibitions, approaching galleries and museums, and how to promote one's work.

The workshops will be led by Sarah Walko, Director of Education and Community Engagement at the Arts Center. Walko is an exhibiting artist with experience leading residency programs, international artist workshops, and numerous public and private events and exhibitions.

Walko has also curated for several institutions and non-profits as well as independent projects and holds an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a BA from the University of Maryland.

The May 20 workshop will be held at Arts Unbound, Inc. in Orange, and begin at 1 p.m. The second event will be held June 3 at 1 PM in Rahway, the specific location of which is to be determined.

Individual consultations will be held on June 10 and 17, from 2-5 p.m., at the Arts Center. The fee for each workshop, designed for artists to gain new tools and insights to enhance their practice, is $20. To register, call 908-273-9121 or
