Lisa Brown – I work in a variety of media: My “Gardens of Hope” are made with watercolors to which I add painted textured papers to make flowers come alive. In the series “Children at Play” I capture the innocence and childhood sense of a joy and a trouble-free time in collage. For my “Texture Scapes” I use acrylics with a variety of papers to portray the variety of textures in landscapes. Through exploration and experimentation I found a lively frolicsome expression of nature in which I combine a variety of media and color. I add beads, leaves, gauze, hand-made papers and paint assembling the work piece layer by layer into a dazzling work of art. I often have a theme or subject in mind yet as each piece is added to the composition is being refined and enhanced.

In making the art pieces as I do, the art process takes over and I lose track of time while my mind is concentrating on the theme. I use both hands and thus both sides of my brain—(the left logical side and the right intuitive) bringing my creative imagination together with my expertise in art media.

I am a teacher and facilitator as well as a fine artist and created “art-as-therapy” programs which are geared to those suffering adversity or pain and working through rough life situations. By directing my clients through the art process and incorporating the Creative Journal Expressive Arts method they have the opportunity to delve into the unconscious to find the most honest expression of what they want to communicate. For four decades, Ronson cigarette lighters were produced in a factory on Manufacturers Place in the Ironbound section of Newark, resulting in contamination of soil and water by the industrial solvent Trichloroethylene (TCE).

In 1989, the factory closed, and a decade later houses were built on a site that environmental officials had restricted to nonresidential uses. Today, toxic TCE ...

Is FAANG Long in the Tooth?

Investors love to rally around a stock story. Today it’s all about the FAANG stocks. Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX) and Google (GOOG) are a major reason why the S&P 500 rallied so much in 2017. Mr. Market is convinced the FAANGs are impervious to a sell-off. “Its different this time” is ringing loud and clear, but will the outcome really be that ...

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
