Back to School Safety Tips

Mike Wattick

Happy September!

The end of summer means Summit kids are going back to school.

I would like to encourage everyone to remember a few simple tips to help keep our families safe this hectic time of year.

If you are in a car, drive defensively and always exercise caution.

Drivers need to go slow, obey speed limits and never text and drive. New Jersey law prohibits all drivers from texting while driving.

If you are walking to school, always cross at an intersection or with a crossing guard if possible.

Too often our minds are not with our bodies. Distracted driving, biking and walking causes many avoidable accidents each year.

Being extra careful and following these tips will help ensure a safe and happy start to our school year.

Mike Wattick is the Republican candidate for Summit Common Council, Ward 2.
