It’s that time of year where the length and breadth of the dark winter begins to grate on us, and cabin fever sets in with a vengeance. Thankfully, one of the country’s lightest holidays slides into focus nearly two months after the delightful, but sometimes stressful, run of major holidays.

If a trip to the Caribbean is not in your plans, fly over to the area’s historic Grand Summit Hotel for a quiet weekend away from the kids and enjoy a night out and a morning sleep in. The hotel’s famous "Romance Package" is being offered at a discount to attract repeat and new Valentines to the legendary Hotel just steps from the vibrant downtown of Summit.

The "Romance Package" includes dinner for two in the hotel’s wildly popular HAT Tavern, chilled champagne and strawberries delivered to your room upon arrival, and overnight accommodations including an upgrade to one of the hotel’s 19 uniquely designed suites. The hotel’s standard full American hot and cold buffet breakfast, WIFI, and passes to Summit’s hottest fitness club -- Equinox Summit.

The partnership that the hotel has formed with the country’s hottest line of fitness centers is exciting for all involved. Equinox clubs are mostly confined to Manhattan where their base of clients is high-energy individuals who make health and well-being a priority in their life. The clubs are cult like in their dedication to fitness and the mindset to go along with it. A signature part of their experience is the spa, and the relationship the Summit club has with the hotel will ensure that you are treated like royalty. The management team at Equinox is new school in its approach to fitness, yet old school in its attention to the guest.

“This time of year is my favorite time of year for people to visit the hotel,” says Assistant General Manager Michael Marino. “With the fireplace on in the lobby, we love seeing guests cuddled in front of the fire with a cup of our signature Shadowbrook Coffee in hand.” The hotel partnered with Law Coffee of Newark two years ago, and the result is a product that is sure to please. “We will put our coffee product up against Starbucks,” says HAT Tavern General Manager Walter Curtis. “Throw in the fact that we are the only venue in the area for Nitro Brewed Iced Coffee, and Kombucha, and you have a new 'go-to spot' with plenty of parking.”

The reduced price of The Grand Summit Hotel’s Romance Package of $350 per couple is being extended through the winter season. “Not only is it a great time to visit the hotel, but the town of Summit as well,” adds Marino. “There is a really cool vibe to the town in winter. The hustle and bustle of the New York set in their business and leisure modes is on full display in the picturesque downtown.” And it doesn’t hurt that restaurant reservations at some of the area’s hottest restaurants like Fiorino and Roots are much easier to come by then in the warmer months.

Tapas specials for Valentine’s Day Weekend in The HAT include Scallops Sauté with Truffle Butter for $12, 'Angry Mike’s Put The Spice In Your Life Chicken Lollipops' for $10 and, for dessert, a plate of assorted chocolate truffles with cheesecake lollipops for $9.

“Spend your special weekend with us at the Hotel and The HAT Tavern, and give your smart phone a little less attention,” adds Curtis. “Everyone needs a quiet weekend away, and sometimes when you look you find that your own private oasis is right in your backyard.”

With 149 guest accommodations and over 10,000 square feet of recently-renovated event space, The Grand Summit Hotel -- the shining star in the town of Summit -- remains one of the area’s most prestigious addresses for social and corporate events.

The hotel’s culinary reputation is unmatched in the area and has been extended to the wildly popular HAT Tavern in the hotel’s lower level. The management team built on this success recently with the grand opening of the Arts and Crafts Lobby Bar serving private label coffee and espresso, Ironbound Nitro Brewed Iced Coffee, a selection of hard to find craft beers, and wine.

The Grand Summit Hotel is located at 570 Springfield Avenue in Summit, New Jersey 07901. For more information call the hotel at 908-273-3000 or visit our website at grandsummit.com.
