MORRIS PLAINS, NJ - Continuing its impressive campaign, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Cross Country Team delivered its best sectional finish in five years, finishing third overall -- out of a field of seventeen schools -- in the NJSIAA North 2 Group 3 Sectional championships at Greystone Park.

The finish is the program's best at sectionals since 2014, when the Hilltoppers captured the title for the second consecutive season.

Mendham, ranked in the top five of the state throughout the season, won the team title, with West Morris Central following in second-place with 82 points. The Hilltoppers finished with 100 points, just ahead of fourth-place Middletown North with 103 and fifth-place Chatham with 111.

The Maroon and White's third-place finish advances the squad to the Group 3 Championship November at Holmdel, with a chance to earn a berth in the season-ending Meet of Champions on November 23.

"Advancing out of this section is quite a feat," said Head Coach Neal Sharma. "N2/G3 has been one of the deepest sections in the state and we've learned over the years that the margin for error is slim if you want to advance. Our boys ran tough and inspired and it resulted in a strong team race."
