SUMMIT, NJ - Senior captain Skyler Schluter had two goals and nine - count 'em nine -- assists as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team overwhelmed Old Bridge 17-2 at Investors Bank Field. Remarkably, Schluter set up the Hilltoppers' first seven goals of the contest.
Sophomore attackmen Luke Dinola (5) and Michael Bonomo (4) combined for nine goals and Summit -- which improved to 2-0 to begin its season -- built a 9-0 lead at halftime and then just kept going. Senior goalie Tyler Hadley had five saves in two-plus quarters work before giving way to junior Owen McTernan, who was credited with two saves. The Hilltoppers outshot the Knights 17-5 in the opening 24 minutes.
It was all over but the counting when Summit scored four in the first quarter and tacked on five more in the second. Senior Gray Humphrey began the goal parade and, before it was over, Dinola had four, junior John Fischetti had a pair and Bonomo and Schluter had all found the back of the net.
In the second half, Bonomo (2), Dinola, Schluter, Humphrey, junior Brendan Driscoll, sophomores Jim Persche and Hunter Schluter all scored goals for the Maroon and White.
Next up for Summit is a April 2 tilt versus New Canaan at Investors Bank Field. Face-off is set for 5 p.m.
