SUMMIT, NJ - Sweet, spicy or both?
Salsa lovers will be salivating as the Summit Farmers Market is set to host its Annual Salsa Contest on Sunday, September 30. Amateur cooks are invited to bring their best salsa to the Summit Farmers Market by 10:45 a.m., with judging beginning at 11 a.m. For those wishing to enter the competition, pre-registration is encouraged, however walk-ins will be welcome.
Salsas will be judged on their flavor, texture, and appearance. All types of salsa will be welcomed, including peach, tomato, tomatillo, verde, fresca and mango. After the salsas are judged, the public will be able to sample them, so please bring 1 pint of salsa.
Entrants must bring their salsa recipe with them on September 30 as the winning recipes will be shared through Summit Downtown Inc.'s mediums. Salsas without recipes will not be judged. Those planning to bring their salsa in reusable serving ware are asked to put a label on the bottom of their dish with their name and phone number. All dishes will be available for pick up between 12:30 and 1 p.m..
Contest winners will receive Summit Farmers Market Fun Money to be spent at any vendor at the market.
The next Summit Farmers Market 'Sunday Funday' activity will be Pumpkin Painting on Sunday, October 28. The market is located in Park & Shop Lot No. 2 -- at the corner of DeForest Avenue and Maple Street -- and is open from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. every Sunday through November 18.
