City News Briefs: Flag Retirement Ceremony Set for June 3; Pooch Leash Laws Reinforced

SUMMIT, NJ - The American Legion Post #322 will hold its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony and 'Grand Massing of the Colors' on June 3 at Summit's Village Green, beginning at 11 a.m.

Residents may bring their used, faded or torn flags to the event, where the American Legion will dispose of them with dignity and honor, respectfully setting them aflame.

A bin designated for the disposal of worn flags is also located a bin outside City Hall, at 512 Springfield Avenue.

Dog Leash Code Reminder

Referencing a number of complaints about dogs being off-leash in parks, about dog waste left in parks and on playing fields, and amid reports-- In several instances -- of dog bites, the City is reminding residents that City code prohibits dogs from being off-leash anywhere in the City except in the location where the dog resides, and that dog waste much be picked up.
