This free 90-minute workshop for students and parents will tell you what the must-complete items to take care of this summer are, and will give you a working timeline to plan better throughout the fall months.  You will learn deadlines for SAT and ACT tests, test prep options, essay planning, subject tests information, answers to the Early Decision vs. Early Action vs. Regular Decision dilemma, what you should expect from a college coach and what you can expect from your guidance counselor.

Presented by Missy Rodriguez, Director of College Guidance for Chyten Premier Tutoring and Test Prep in Millburn.  Missy was formerly a tenured Guidance Counselor at Tenafly High School and the Academy of Advancement of Science and Technology before starting her career as an independent counselor.  Missy holds a Bachelor’s degree from Emory University, an MA in Counseling Psychology and an Ed.M in Education from Teachers’ College, Columbia University.  A resident of Short Hills, Missy has been with Chyten since 2010.

Workshop dates are:  Tuesday June 25 at 7pm; Tuesday July 9 at 7pm; and Saturday July 13 at 10 am. All workshops will take place at Chyten Millburn, at 227 Millburn Ave.  Call 973.564.5220 for additional information and to reserve a seat.

“This free workshop will give you the edge,” Chyten’s Maureen McGovern said.  “The thought of the whole college process is so overwhelming for the kids coming out of their junior year and for their parents too, particularly if this is their first time going through it.  Then, 90 minutes later, a family can feel as if they have taken the first steps they need to take on the arduous college application process.  This workshop is empowering as it takes away some of the uncertainty and guesswork,” McGovern said.

Chyten features one-on-one tutoring, small group tutoring, and specialized classes for students from kindergarten through College.   The staff of highly educated, professional teachers is trained on the proprietary Chyten methods that helps maximize success in school and scores on high school and college entrance exams.   Tutors develop an individualized program of study for each child, which helps to motivate and challenge.  Contact Maureen McGovern at 973-564-5220, or

If your son or daughter is turning 18, here are a few things you need to know:

If you have an UGMA/UTMA savings account for your child, did you know those assets are his/her legal property and once that instrument matures (most often 21 years old or 18, if you designated that at time of account creation), those assets are at your child’s disposal with no restrictions or ...

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
