Congregation Ohr Shalom-SJCC Hosts Adult Education Series Starting Oct. 22

SUMMIT, NJ - Congregation Ohr Shalom-SJCC will host a Fall, 2014, Adult Education Series beginning October 22.  The six-session, two hour-long segments run back-to-back; however, participants may participate in either or both segments.  

The series dates are October 22, 29, November 5, 12, and 19, and December 3.  All sessions will be held at Congregation Ohr Shalom-S JCC, located at 67 Kent Place Boulevard.  

Current Concerns in the Jewish World begins at 9:30 a.m., with each session featuring a different speaker.  The cost for this series is $60, payable on October 22.  

Issues in Contemporary Conservative Judaism  begins at 10:30 a.m., and will be led by Rabbi Avi Friedman of Congregation Ohr Shalom.  There is no fee for this class.

October 29 - Raffi Mark, 2013 alumnus of Rutgers University, past president of Hillel: “An Insider’s view of the Jewish-Palestinian tensions on campus”

November 5 - Reverend Javier Viera, Dean of the Drew University Theological School, and recent attendee at Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem:  “Reflections on Peace and War”

November 12 - Dr. Gilbert Kahn, Professor of Political Science at Kean University, and bi-monthly columnist for NJJN:  “The Spillover from the Gaza War, and the explosion of European Anti-Semitism”

November 19 - Moshe Levi, Community Shaliach from the Jewish Federation of Greater Metro West:  “An Assessment of Israel’s Contemporary Situation”

December 3 - Documentary film of Jewish interest (to be announced); discussion facilitated by Rabbi Avi Friedman, Congregation Ohr Shalom - SJCC
