Connection's Crew Dance Team Scores Big at Starpower

SUMMIT-  The Connection Crew Dance Team has continued their successful season, claiming several top honors at the Starpower competition held at the Meadowlands.

The Crew received excellent scores of 4 3/4 and 5 Stars (out of 5 stars) in the Star Division, competing in three Solos, two Duets, six Small Groups, and one Line. In various age divisions, The Crew received seventh place, sixth place, fourth place, two third place, three second place, and four first place overall rankings.

The Platinum Team also received a Special Judges Award, their second Judges Award this season. Additionally, the Elite Team and Rhythm Crew received one of three of the highest scores in their respective age groups in the Star Division. These honors earned them an invitation to the World Dance Championships.

Specific Team highlights included:

- The Sparkle Team received 4 3/4 Stars, placed sixth overall Star Division age 8 and under Small Group.

- The Silver Team received 4 3/4 Stars, placed seventh overall Star Division age 8 and under Small Group.

- The Gold Team received 4 3/4 Stars, placed first in age 10 Jazz Small Group, and third overall Star Division age 9-11 Small Group.



- The Rhythm Crew received 4 3/4 Stars, first place in age 12-14 Hip Hop Small Group; first place overall Star Division age 12-14 Small Group; Golden Ticket invitation to compete at the World Dance Championships; and the Star Dance Alliance Award / the Highest Scoring Star Division entry for ages 12 & up.

- The Platinum Team received 4 3/4 Stars, first place in age 13 Jazz Small Group, second place overall Star Division age 12-14 Small Group, and Girl Power Special Judges Award.

- The Elite Team received 5 Stars, first place in age 11 Open Small Group, first place overall Star Division age 9-11, and Golden Ticket invitation to compete at the World Dance Championships. They were in the top three Highest Scoring Star Division entry for ages 11 & under.

- The Production Number received 4 3/4 Stars, first place in age 9-11 Production Lines, and first place overall Star Division age 9-11 Lines.

Christina Hanson received 4 3/4 Stars for her solo, placed first in 12-14 Contemporary Solo, and placed second overall Star Division age 12-14 Solo.

Maddy Reilly received 4 3/4 Stars for her solo, and placed third overall Star Division age 12-14 Solo.

Camille Fournier-Ruiz received 4 3/4 Stars for her solo, and placed fourth overall Star Division age 12-14 Solo.

Kathryn Illis and Shea Brennan received 4 3/4 Stars for their duet, placed first in age 12 Lyrical Duet/Trio, and first in overall Star Division age 12-14 Duet/Trio.

Lizzy Konzelmann and Bella Leonard received 4 3/4 Stars for their duet, and placed second overall Star Division age 12-14 Duet/Trio.

The Crew, featuring five teams which all compete, is The Connection for Women and Families’ Competitive Dance Team made up of boys and girls ages 5 and up. The Crew’s mission is to build well-rounded dancers and encourage team building in a safe, fun, and competitive environment. Additionally, members have the opportunity to compete in Solos, Duets, and Trios, and to be a part of the Elite Team. 

Jessica Fascenelli choreographed all of The Crew's entries, except for the tap solo, which was choreographed by Danielle Bellomo. The Crew will attend one more competition this season, then perform in The Connection's annual Dance Recital on June 6.
