Continuo Arts Presents Annual Spring Concert May 21 at Central Church; Free Event Includes '20th Century Celebration of Music' Performance

The annual "Sounds of Music" Spring Concert will feature the Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra presenting the “Mass of the Children.” Credits:

SUMMIT, NJ - The Continuo Arts Foundation’s annual “Sounds of Music” Spring Concert wil take place May 21 at Central Presbyterian Church. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m., with donations accepted. 

The concert will feature the Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra presenting the “Mass of the Children” by John Rutter, Candace Wicke conductor with featured soloists Chery Weech and Ron Brendel.

Chery Weech Brendel has performed opera, recital and oratorio in the United States, Italy and Germany where she is a encore performer at the Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau. The performances of Ron Brendel have been heralded as “effortlessly professional… strongly lyric…[and] memorable” in opera, oratorio and recital.

A "20th Century Celebration of Music" will close the show, highlighting iconic music throughout the decades of the 1900s.

The “Mass of the Children” is also on the program for an invitational appearance at the prestigious international Festival Pro Musica E Arte Sacra in Rome and Vatican City in November.

More than one hundred singers of all ages will travel to Italy sharing the festival program with the likes of the Vienna Philharmonic, Zubin Metha, the Japanese Illuminart Orchestra and Chorus and many other international ensembles of note.

“To say we are excited, thrilled and humbled by this unbelievable invitation is a huge understatement,” said Conductor Candace Wicke, “We hope many local singers and non-performers from the Tri-State Area can join us for this extraordinary opportunity."

Auditions are now taking place for Continuo’s Summer Musical Theater Conservatory presenting “Legally Blonde” and the “Voices Rising Showcase” as well as for the 2016-17 concert season.
