SUMMIT, NJ - “To the victor belong the spoils” and, for members of the Tournament of Champions-winning Summit High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, that adage has proven true and the bounty is well deserved and prodigious.

Four senior student-athletes — captains Catherine Cordrey, Callie Humphrey, Julia Persche, and Sara Szynal  — have been named US Lacrosse High School All-Americans. A fifth Hilltopper -- teammate, classmate and fellow captain Teia Ross -- was named an Academic All-American.

The national honors cap a slew of post-season accolades for members of a team that broke through the TOC barrier June 11, when Humphrey’s goal in the second overtime period defeated Ridgewood, giving the Summit their first ever New Jersey TOC title.

The storybook season, in which The Maroon & White went 24-1, was fueled by a seismic senior class, augmented by a talented group of underclassmen, and expertly managed by Head Coach Mike Walsh -- who, himself, earned numerous honors -- and his staff.

When they beat Ridgewood at Kean University, Summit exorcised the demons of the previous two seasons, when they advanced to the TOC Final only to drop close decisions to Moorestown and Oak Knoll.

his year, they won everything there is to win as a team, as evidenced by:

- Stars & Stripes Conference, South Division Champions
- Union County Champions*
- North Jersey, Group III, Sectional Champions
- Group III State Champions
- TOC Champions

* Eighth consecutive UCT championship

Summit achieved state and national poll recognition, including:

- #1 in State, #1 Group III – Final poll – Star Ledger – selected as team of the year
- #2 in Tri-State, Metro – MSG Varsity
- #5 in nation – USA Today Super 25 poll
- #7 in nation – Nike / US Lacrosse poll
- #4 in nation – Inside Lacrosse poll
