SUMMIT, NJ - It appears the majority of the 17 percent of the Summit population that voted in the June 6 primary were Democrats, as candidates affiliated with that political party across the ballot outdistanced their future Republican opponents in unofficial, key entry results.

In the local races set for November, all three Democrats vying for Summit Common Council Seats earned significantly larger vote totals, including:

Summit residents Lacey Rzeszowski and Jill Lazare led the field in the State General Assembly and State Senate races, respectively, and Democrats held advantages in votes totals for New Jersey Governor, Union County Freeholder, and Union County Sheriff.

In the race for governor statewide, Phil Murphy easily won the Democratic nomination and current Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno comfortably took the Republican nomination. Murphy was the frontrunner in Summit totals overall (716 votes), while Guadagno (329) slightly trailed fellow Republican Jack Ciatterelli (406) and finished fourth overall.

A total of 2,599 ballots were cast in the Hilltop City.
