SUMMIT, NJ - They may be 'running for the roses' at Churchill Downs on May 4, but Hilltop City residents will be fishing for fun and fame at the town's 'Muni' that same day -- and the following day, too -- when the Summit Department of Community Programs and the Summit Police Athletic League (PAL) host the 2019 PAL Fishing Derby at the Summit Municipal Golf Course.

The event will be held May 4 and 5, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. 

'The Muni' pond will be fully-stocked with more than 1,000 rainbow trout, including 10 prize fish that are nearly two-feet in length. Anglers are asked to bring a fishing rod and reel; bait and tackle will be available for purchase.

Admission to the fishing derby is free and all residents are invited to attend, with no golf course membership necessary. is not required. The Summit PAL will be providing free hot dogs and pop for all attendees.
