NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The League of Women Voters of Summit, Berkeley Heights and New Providence will present Brigid Callahan Harrison, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science and Law at Montclair State University (MSU), at their May 3 meeting.

Harrison will deliver a talk entitled, 'Democracy in Action: A Deep Dive into Elections'.

Harrison, who has taught at MSU since 1994, has been named to PolitickerNJ's 'Power List 2015' (at #20), and is also a frequent commentator in print and electronic media on U.S. politics. She is a columnist for The New York Observer, PolitickerNJ, and The Bergen Record, and her editorials have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Star-Ledger, and The Press of Atlantic City.

She is the author of American Democracy Now (McGraw-Hill Publishers, now in its fourth edition), one of the leading introductory political science textbooks in the United States. She is also the author of A More Perfect Union (McGraw-Hill Publishers, 2010), Power and Society (Cengage, now in its 13th edition) and Women in American Politics (Wadsworth, 2003).

Her remarks will focus on the ongoing presidential campaign, explaining the rise of 'Trumpism', the draw of Sanders among Millennials, and what voters can look forward to in the event of a brokered Republican convention.

She will also discuss Governor Chris Christie's support of Trump, and what that has meant for him politically -- nationally and in New Jersey -- and what it could portend for his future. The wrap up will include a look ahead to the 2017 gubernatorial elections in the state. 

Admission is free, with light refreshments will be provided. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m., and will be held at the De Corso Community Center, located at 15 East 4th Street in New Providence.
