Eighth Annual Earth Day Clean-Up Planned for April 26 -27, Public Participation Invited

SUMMIT, NJ - Neighbors, friends, community and school groups are invited to pitch in and help clean up Summit’s parks and open spaces in the Eighth Annual City-wide Earth Day Clean-Up April 26, from 9 a.m. - Noon.  There will also be one site open for clean-up the afternoon of April 27; with the morning of the 27th serving as the event's rain date.

In 2013, the effort generated an estimated 680 lbs. of plastic, glass, aluminum and paper, as well as five yards of brush, that was collected from City parks and open spaces.  Volunteers also removed invasive plants and laid wood chips on trails.

Among the sites that will be cleaned up, depending on the number of participants, are portions of Wilson Park, Martin’s Brook Park, and the open spaces surrounding the Transfer Station, including areas by Mount Vernon Road, Constantine Place and Risk Avenue.  The focus this year will be on the Passaic River trail area at the Transfer Station.  Sites owned by Union County to be included in the Clean-Up are Passaic River Park, Briant Park, and Hidden Valley Park.

To register a group for participation, send an email to  Walk-ins are also welcome at the Briant Park location on April 26.  Participants in the Earth Day Clean-Up are asked to bring work gloves and a beverage.  Community service hours are available.
