FirstEnergy Foundation’s 'Christmas in July' Campaign Donates $10,000 to NJ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation

MORRISTOWN, NJ - The FirstEnergy Foundation has delivered a unsolicited $10,000 grant to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation as part of its “Christmas in July” campaign, a new giving initiative designed to support deserving community organizations.

This gift will be earmarked for the group’s Vietnam Era Museum and Visitors Center, which is the only one of its kind in the nation. The organization seeks to foster a thorough understanding of the Vietnam era, including the political, historical, social and cultural aspects that impacted New Jersey and the nation.

Overall, 12 "Christmas in July" gifts were awarded – one in the each of the service areas for FirstEnergy’s 10 utilities, including Jersey Central Power & Light, and one each to organizations near the company’s nuclear and fossil generation operations.

“This new giving initiative is designed to support the good work these organizations do year-round in our service areas,” said Dee Lowery, president of the FirstEnergy Foundation. “Those chosen were selected by FirstEnergy employees, who identified organizations in their geographic location that do extraordinary work to make our communities a better place to live and work.  We’re very pleased to provide these surprise grants to support ongoing investment in the quality of life in our service areas.

The FirstEnergy Foundation’s "Christmas in July" campaign follows a similar campaign last December called "Gifts of the Season," in which 12 deserving organizations were granted surprise gifts in honor of their good work in communities where FirstEnergy has operations.

The FirstEnergy Foundation is funded solely by FirstEnergy Corp. and provides support to non-profit, tax-exempt health and human services agencies; educational organizations; cultural and arts programs and institutions; and civic groups in areas served by FirstEnergy’s 10 electric operating companies and in areas where the company conducts business.
