SUMMIT, NJ - Five Summit student-athletes -- Sam Fleischman, Kendall Blomfield, Eliza Rustum, Maddie Gaeta, and Matt Murdock -- have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by TAP into Summit, for the weeks ending October 16 and 23, respectively.

Each week throughout the school athletic year, an athlete or athletes will be honored for distinguishing themselves in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

Junior harrier Fleischman has been a constantly-improving member of the Boys Cross Country team, his hard work paying off as evidenced when he was the Hilltopers' runner-up finisher at the Mountain Division of the Union County Conference Championship meet. His time of 17:46 is a :42 improvement from his best time last year on the same course and was good enough for ninth best overall in the meet.

Blomfield and Rustum won all but two matches this season -- both defeats were in tournaments -- playing in the number-one doubles slot for the Girls Varsity Tennis Team, helping the squad earn a share of the Union County Title. The terrific tandem of juniors reached the NJSIAA doubles tournament semifinals.

Gaeta has guarded the fort all season long for the Varsity Field Hockey team, with the junior racking up more than 350 saves in goal during the campaign -- including 22 versus Ridge -- as the Hilltoppers have advanced to the second round of the NJSIAA tournament.

Murdock has been a touchdown machine for the Varsity Football Team, as they have bolted out to a 6-1 record. The senior captain has reached the end zone 11 times, is The Maroon & White's leading receiver with 23 receptions and 343 yards, has rushed for 433 yards while averaging nearly eight yards per carry, and has been a force on kick-off and punt returns as well.

Is FAANG Long in the Tooth?

Investors love to rally around a stock story. Today it’s all about the FAANG stocks. Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX) and Google (GOOG) are a major reason why the S&P 500 rallied so much in 2017. Mr. Market is convinced the FAANGs are impervious to a sell-off. “Its different this time” is ringing loud and clear, but will the outcome really be that ...

Let the Games Begin

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
