Floating a New Concept, RRA Hosts 'Arboretum Explorers' Series

SUMMIT, NJ - 'Arboretum Explorers',  a new adventure series designed to explore natural areas beyond Reeves-Reed Arboretum (RRA), will see participants navigating rocky terrain and paddling on tranquil waters, with each outing designed to provide a unique adventure.

Excursions planned for this spring and summer, include.

Passaic River / Great Swamp Paddle -- June 3, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Bordering Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, this section of the Passaic River boasts beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife. Paddlers will feel at one with nature as the river's twists and turns carry them deeper into the refuge's soul, portaging over a beaver dam and checking their amazing handiwork.

Led by an American Canoe Association (ACA)-certified kayak instructor from Kayak East, this tour is rated "Easy" meaning no experience is necessary. This tour is great for families and paddlers of any skill level. Photographers, bird-watchers and anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy nature will also love it. Paddlers ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children 6 to 12 years of age must share a tandem kayak with an adult.

Meadowlands Sunset Kayak Tour -- July 26, 6-9 p.m.

With the Mahattan skyline as a backdrop, participants will be pleasantly surprised to find great paddling in the Meadowlands. The many creeks, sweeping through grassy hills and phragmites, offer an ecological system of tidal waters, where wading birds and other wildlife forage for food in the mud flats at low tide.

Spruce Run Reservoir Sunset Stand Up Paddling Tour -- August 24, 6-8 p.m.

Stand up paddle boarding is the new craze in watersports, and a  great way to enjoy a fantastic sunset.

5/15 - Sean M. Reidy, 52, of Summit was arrested on a contempt of court warrant out of Summit. Mr. Reidy was able to post bail and released with a pending court date.

5/18 - At 1615 hours a report was taken for a theft from a Springfield Avenue business. The incident occurred at approximately 1031 hours when a white female entered the business and removed a blue Ramy Brook Blouse from a rack.
