Michael Wei, left, a first grader, and his brother Eric, a third grader, both students at Summit’s Franklin School, took third place as a team in the Primary Section of the 2011 New Jersey Elementary Championship Chess Tournament held February 27 in Lincroft. Each school team could have up to three students, yet Eric and Michael’s combined eight-point score enabled them to place third. Eric and Michael said they are so proud to earn a trophy on behalf of Franklin School, and they gave their trophies to the Franklin School Chess Club, presenting them to Eric’s teacher, Michael Sefransky, who is the club advisor. Eric also received a second place trophy in the overall Primary K-3 division, and Michael received a third place trophy in the first grade division. In the photo, the center trophy is the team trophy.
