The Summit YMCA has acquires the state-of-the-art InBody570, a Body Composition Analysis scale, to help members learn more about how to improve health from the inside out.

With a month into the New Year, weight loss resolutions typically begin to waiver, with numbers dropping significantly by the time March and April come around. According to Forbes, University of Scranton researchers suggest that only 8% of people achieve their New Year’s wellness goals. But this year, the Summit YMCA Wellness team is confident that things are going to change for the better when it comes to improving health and wellness at the Y.

In acquiring the InBody570, the Summit Area YMCA once again delivers on its promise to the community in providing all with opportunities, resources, programs and services to encourage healthy living and well-being within the community. The InBody570, a scale developed by the InBody corporation, has astounding accuracy in measuring body composition. In less than 1 minute, the scale provides an assessment of percentages and levels of fat, lean body muscle, water levels and more to the user.

“It’s the coolest thing ever," said Jay Jacobs, Summit YMCA Wellness Navigator and Public Speaker, “Once you use it, you will never think about a scale the same way. Because whatever comes out on that reading, it’s meant as a baseline. It’s not even good or bad, it just gives you something for you to work from. You know, sometimes you’re at the gym and you’re working out, and you’re trying to eat healthier, but you say ‘I’m not losing weight’.  But that might be because maybe you’re losing body fat and gaining muscle, and this machine will tell you that.”

The human body is comprised more than a number on the scale—water, muscle, fat, and other compounds add up to create “weight.” Eating habits and exercise can influence the balance of those compounds, leading to the gaining or losing of fat or muscle. The InBody assessment also provides helpful information regarding BMI, percentage of muscle and fat per body segment, caloric intake to maintain the body (or to gain or lose weight), and more. With all data stored in the InBody’s Cloud system, “Lookin’Body Web”, users are able to access their data easily anytime, anywhere to track their progress.

By using the InBody570, users are able to make more informed decisions on how to improve their health by using their data to consult with the Summit YMCA Wellness Staff for suggestions and guidance, Y Personal Trainers, Instructors, personal physicians and more.
