SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Board of Education has approved the transfer of Felix Gil, current Principal of the Primary Centers, to Principal of Franklin Elementary School.  Gil will take over for Dr. Sheila Cole upon her retirement, beginning October 1.  Cole has served as Principal of Franklin Elementary School since 1999.

The approval of this transfer took place at the May Board of Education meeting, held on May 15. The Summit Public Schools will begin the process, by committee, to hire a new principal for the Wilson and Jefferson Primary Centers. 

Gil joined Summit as the first Principal of the Primary Centers, upon their completion in 2008.  Under his leadership, the programs in general and special education have become models, recognized by the state and visited by other districts from New Jersey and New York.  

Gil has been a school administrator since 2001.  He came to Summit after serving as principal at the Anna Silver School, PS #20, in New York City.  There, he supervised 650 students and a staff of 75.

Gil is a graduate of New York University.  He also holds two Masters degree, including a Master’s of Science from the City University of New York, and a Master’s of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. 
Gil is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.  he is fluent in Spanish and conversational Portuguese.
