CRANFORD, NJ - In a historic performance, the Summit High School Gymnastics Team -- for just the 3rd time in school history -- finished on the podium at the Union County Championships at Cranford High School. The Hilltoppers total of 105.8 was good for second place, closely behind meet champion Scotch Plains-Fanwood's total of 106.2.

Westfield was third with a 105.05.  Cranford, Dayton, Union, Union Catholic, Rahway and Governor Livingston rounded out the competition field.

Summit junior co-captain Catherine Singow claimed the Maroon and White's first-ever All-Around title with a winning score of 35.9, finishing second on Bars, third on Beam and second on Floor.

Delivering a near-perfect meet with 20 routines and no mistakes, Summit had both the top beam and floor squads in the County.

Sophomore Emma Burke finished fifth in the All-Around with a 34.45, and also took fourth on beam and floor and ninth on vault. Senior co-captain Sofia Confalonieri earned sixth place on bars, ninth on beam and tenth on vault.  Sophomore Mia Murdock finished sixth on floor.  Juniors Emma Claus and Margaret Griffith tied for seventh on beam, rounding out an incredible fourteen top-10 finishes by the squad. Juniors Isabel Claus, Quinn Meyer and Charlotte Girouard also contributed to the team's big night.

The Beam Team of Griffith, Emma Claus, Confalonieri, Burke and Singow also broke the Summit school record with a 27.675 team score, which beat the previous record of 27.05 set in 2013.

Summit will host Union High School at The Connection on October 21 in their final dual meet of the season, where senior Confalonieri will be honored. The meet begins at 7 p.m.
