Holiday Tree Lighting, Arrival of Santa Highlight Summit's Snowy Eve

Facepainters work their (holiday) magic.

SUMMIT, NJ - As snowflakes fell softly from the sky, the Holiday Tree at Village Green was lit, Santa Claus arrived on the roof of the Summit Area YMCA, and the Hilltop City came alive with Holiday Cheer.

As the crowd counted down, the Grady Family flipped the switch illuminating the Holiday Tree, which was already dusted with a powdery coating courtesy of Mother Nature. Carolers led the assembled crowd, which included Mayor Ellen Dickson, in a sing-a-long of holiday favorite tunes, and the downtown area resembled a Currier and Ives print.
Earlier, proving that it pays to have friends in high places, a Summit Fire Department hook-and-ladder truck picked up Santa from the roof of the Summit YMCA and brought him down to the ground, to the delight of the hundreds of kids -- of all ages -- anxious to greet him.
inside the Y, the Summit Summit High School brass quintet, under the direction of Steve Rap, played holiday tunes in the lobby, and the Hubbard Gym was transformed into a receiving line for Kris Kringle, as children waited patiently for their turn to relay their gift wishes, get their picture taken, and confess whether they had been naughty or nice.
While the "polls" are still open, early precinct reports show that "nice" appears to be headed for a landslide victory over "naughty".
