An estimated 40 Summit Public Schools custodial / maintenance staff members, along with District officials, attended a kick-off event signaling the onset of summer repairs, upkeep, and maintenance initiatives, which also served to contemporaneously recognize several staff all-stars. 
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Nick DelDuca, Doug Maddy, Diter Hakrama, Erik Frazier, Shawn Hillas and Mike Oliveira. Jemel Brinson who works at Summit High School and Bob Stankwich who works at Wilson Primary Center and the BOE Administrative Offices, were recipients of Leadership Awards.

The slate of District projects includes painting lockers, refurbishing conference rooms, powerwashing, sidewalk repairs, recoating gym floors, and the implementation of the Lockdown Emergency Notification System (LENS). The event concluded with Paul Jenne from Eastern Datacomm, who talked about technology in relation to the main school safety components. LENS will be able to notify people in 20 seconds or less, with an automated message, both inside and outside of the building.
