SUMMIT, NJ - The inaugural Teen Play Reading Series begins with "12 Angry Jurors," August 1 at MONDO.
The performance is based on "Twelve Angry Men," a play by Reginald Rose adapted from his 1954 teleplay of the same title for the CBS Studio One anthology television series.
The drama depicts a jury forced to consider a homicide trial. The story begins after closing arguments have been presented in the homicide case, as the judge is giving his instructions to the jury. At the onset, they have a near-unanimous decision of guilty, with a single dissenter of not-guilty, who throughout the play sows a seed of reasonable doubt.
Throughout their deliberation, the jurors do not call each by their names, because they are unknown by the jurors. Several of the jurors have different reasons for discriminating against the witness: his race, his background, and the troubled relationship between one juror and his own son.
Produced and directed by Theresa Turner, the cast includes Ashima Agarwal, Jeff Blitt, Shannon Charlton, Gabby DeGeorge, Kara Dobias, Maggie Kruger, Gigi Marchini, Marc Mekhanik, Joanna Messineo, Natalie Pereira, Emily Peterson, Jillian Turner, and Keri Shi.
The performance on MONDO's lower level Grotto Stage begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $12, and light refreshments will be sold separately. For reservations, contact email@example.com, or call 917 / 969-4534. MONDO is located at 436 Springfield Avenue.
