SUMMIT, NJ - Representatives from five Summit houses of worship met recently to discuss the possibility of forming a “Green Circle” in Summit.

Summit would be one of only two communities in the USA to form a “Green Circle,” which would provide structure and support for community-wide interfaith environmental programming as well as institution-specific programming.
Reverend Fletcher Harper, Executive Director of GreenFaith, was the guest speaker at this organizational meeting, which was moderated by Rabbi Avi Friedman of Congregation Ohr Shalom, past president of the Summit Interfaith Council, and Reverend Emilie Boggis of the Unitarian Church in Summit, who is the current president of the Summit Interfaith Council.

GreenFaith works to inspire, educate and mobilize people of diverse religious backgrounds to lead environmental stewardship programs in their individual and collective faith communities.  These religious congregations feel strongly that protecting the earth is a shared religious value and that environmental stewardship is a moral responsibility.  Any religious institution in the Summit area is welcome to join in this effort.
